Foods To Avoid For Acne Free Skin

There has been much research on different foods to find which exactly cause acne, however, the findings have been somewhat divided. This is due to the fact that there are no common foods that have the same effect on every person. While each person responds differently to certain foods, there are specific foods that are known to cause breakouts for a number of different skin types.

Breakouts are anyone’s worst nightmare. Try cutting out the foods listed below to see if these have are the cause of your breakout concerns.

Refined Sugar

Sugar is found in just about everything we eat, making it difficult to avoid. Keep your daily sugar intake within the recommended two to four servings of the fructose found in fruit. Avoid sugars found elsewhere, like in refined carbohydrates and sweets. Sugar, particularly from certain sources (such as sweets and fizzy drinks), can exacerbate acne. Not to mention cause a whole host of other health problems.

Dairy

Studies have found that milk (regardless of the fat content) is associated with increased acne. With 80 to 90% of milk is derived from pregnant cows researchers are starting to find that the natural growth hormones (that are meant for calves to grow quickly) are stimulating the acne process. So if you’re acne prone, try cutting back or cutting out the dairy products you consume.

Soft drinks

By keeping your blood sugar balanced as much of possible this will help your skin looking healthy. With their high sugar content, soft drinks can wreak havoc on your skin. Causing everything from acne to visible signs of ageing. Soda is entirely devoid of any nutrients, so instead, quench your thirst with water flavoured with slices of your favourite fruit.

Processed meats

Experts suspect that the chemicals within the processing of these meats may lead to inflammation and can damage your skin collagen.

Fast food

Greasy fast food creates inflammation in the body. Studies have already linked fast food to conditions such as childhood asthma, due to its ability to raise overall inflammation in the body. Inflammation leads to pimples, so if you’re going to a fast-food restaurant, choose the salad.

High-glycemic foods

Think cakes, cookies, processed bread, sweet alcoholic drinks, processed breakfast cereals and other foods containing simple carbohydrates such as sugar, corn syrup and fructose. High GI foods cause blood sugar to spike very quickly. A spike causes the release of insulin. The subsequent chain of events includes the release of testosterone (in men and women), the overproduction of sebum, and acne. Choose low-glycemic-index foods instead, like vegetables, whole grains, sweet potatoes, and most fruits

Gluten

Glutinous proteins can worsen acne by sensitising your immune system and promoting inflammation. If you have severe acne, try cutting back to see if this is one of the causing factors.

 

Each person’s acne condition is unique, this list can be used to isolate which types of foods might be detrimental to your quest for clear skin. Of course, you don’t have to cut out all of these foods.
