ONNE on Onne with Sam Wood
The name Sam Wood might sound familiar, but finding love and welcoming his daughter into the world isn't all that Sam has been up to. With his own personal training studio The Woodshed and nutrition program 28 by Sam Wood, Sam has been keeping busy promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. We spoke with Sam about healthy eating, getting fit and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
What motivated you to become a personal trainer?
I love to keep fit but well beyond that, I love people. Finding a job where I could combine the two and help people every day is truly the best job in the world.
What do you love most about working with people who are dedicated to improving their fitness?
I love the changes that go beyond the physical. Seeing people grow in confidence and have a new found love for themselves and self-belief is most rewarding.
As a personal trainer, what are your top three tips for readers seeking to foster a healthier lifestyle?
Move every day. Eat real food. Focus on progress, not perfection.
We all have a “cheat day” where we have a day off from our nutrition program with a cheeky treat (…or two). What does your “cheat day” look like?
I’m more about a cheat meal rather than a whole day, but you can’t beat a parma with chips!
How do you stay motivated to stick to an exercise schedule?
The key is to make sure it becomes a habit. The workouts you do on the days where you are not feeling the most motivated are the ones that really make the difference.
What are your tips for people with a hectic schedule but are still looking to eat healthily and stay fit?
It doesn’t take as long as you think. My whole concept is 28 minutes a day. It is achievable, sustainable and still gets great results. You have lots of amazing looking recipes on the blog for 28 by Sam Wood. What are your favourite foods and which recipes would you highly recommend?
Healthy food should not taste like cardboard. I love my healthy spag bol, the 28 sticky chicken or a great smoothie post-workout to kick off my day. They honestly all taste great!
Now let’s get a little personal, what is your favourite holiday destination?
If we are staying close to home I love getting back to Tassie or up to Byron for a weekend but my favourite city in the world is New York.
Best skincare advice you have ever been given?
Not sure if this is my forte but I tend to keep it really simple, just scrub and moisturize.
