Plants That Help You Get A Better Night Sleep

We all know that beauty sleep is important, but did you know that keeping some plants close can help you sleep better? If you are unable to sleep well and your skin is showing this, these plants help change the quality of air in your bedroom and alter the environment to make it feel more refreshing.

Aloe Vera

Not only is Aloe Vera great internally and topically, is it also amazing to have in your home. Aloe vera works by emitting oxygen at night, making for a more restful sleep. Listed as one of NASA’s top air-improving plants. Aloe can help eradicate polluting chemicals found in cleaning agents, thus purifying your air in the bedroom and the rest of your house. When harmful chemicals are at a high level in your home, the plant will develop brown spots, keeping you well aware of the “situation.”

Lavender

Lavender has a soothing aroma which helps us relax and inevitably fall asleep. That powerful lavender smell is said to slow down the slow down heart rate, lower blood pressure and levels of stress. It has also shown to reduce crying in babies, while simultaneously reducing stress in both mother and child.

Jasmine

The Wheeling Jesuit University conducted a study that has proven the efficacy of jasmine as a natural sleeping aid. Jasmine has been shown to improve the quality of sleep, decreased anxiety and increase alertness. It has a gentle, soothing effect on the body and mind.

English Ivy

Another of NASA’s favourites. English Ivy is easy to grow and is a great air purifier. It is believed to help ease breathing problems and conditions such as asthma in some people. The American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology reported that, in a 2005 experiment, English Ivy removed 94% of airborne feces and 78% of airborne mould in just 12 hours. It is toxic to kids and pets though, so make sure to keep it somewhere out of reach!

Snake Plant

Also called mother-in-law’s tongue, they help improve the quality of air and overall atmosphere, wherever they are kept indoors. One of the most recommended plants for improving indoor air quality, the snake plant emits oxygen at night while you’re asleep. It also cuts down the carbon dioxide levels in the air inside your house. As well as filtering out those nasty household toxins from the air, keeping the air pure and healthy to breathe.

Gardenia

Studies indicate that keeping one in your room may help you achieve a better quality of sleep. With claims that it may be as effective as Valium in relieving anxiety and promoting sleep.

Bamboo Palm

This small plant is a fantastic air purifier. By having these pretty palms, you can ditch your chemical-laden air fresheners as they eliminate airborne smells and toxins.

Golden Pothos

These plants can remove almost 9000 micrograms of formaldehyde from the air and 70% of airborne benzene in as little as 24 hours. We feel a trip to the local plant store in is order.
